Julia Child of the Hardware Store

   This might be a little different for the Hardware Store blog, but believe me, there is a connection. Our hardware store is a member of the Burton Chamber of Commerce, who are a great bunch of folks, local merchants and business owners who have joined together to help promote the good life here in Burton. Every Spring we get together for a picnic and my wife Mary Anne made her famous (actually my Mom’s) cauliflower bake. There were many rave reviews and she promised to give the recipe to several people. There were so many in fact, it seemed to easier to just put it online. So here it is;

Mrs. Lamppert’s Cauliflower Bake

1 Large cauliflower head, cut into flowerettes

1/2 tsp. salt

3 cups water

Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat, cook 5 minutes more, drain.

Combine:

1/2 cup melted margarine or butter

1 Tbl. sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. Pepper

1 cup crushed butter crackers

Stir into cauliflower and add the following:

1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

(reserve 1/2 cup for topping)

1/2 cup chopped green pepper

1 medium onion

1-15 ounce can chopped tomatoes (can be seasoned)

Spoon into 9 x 13” greased baking dish. Top with the reserved cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Invite over some some friends or family and enjoy.
